I take yoga for more than just toning, strength and flexibility. Yoga heightens my awareness of my body, which in turn helps me pay more attention to my eating habits. Yoga also helps me lose weight by making me a calmer, more mindful eater. Instead of living to eat, I eat to live. Not only do I eat and drink well, I also make sure I take a moment before each meal to breathe deeply and savor each bite. Powered by Koni Energizer Yogi, a delicious pomegranate black tea from the Koni Yogalates Collection. A good yoga practice stretches and compresses every part of the body to keeping the waste-removal departments (circulatory, digestive, and lymphatic systems) of the body functioning well. I like these poses because they are easy and they help to push, pull, and twist my body. Not only does it feel great, but these poses also help facilitate the removal of waste products. Pose #1 - Downward Facing Dog: Instructions: Sit up tall with your legs straight. Bend your right knee and bring the sole of your right foot to the floor just in front of your right sitting bone. Rest your right hand on the floor behind your back for support. Reach your left hand up so strongly that your ribcage lifts up. Rotate your torso to the right and bring your left elbow to the outside of your right knee. Stay for 5 deep breaths, gradually and gently using the sensation of your left elbow pressing into to your right leg to encourage your torso to twist further to the right. Either look behind you, over your right shoulder or straight ahead, depending on what feels best to your neck. Repeat on the other side. Detox benefits: Massages abdominal organs, including the liver and kidneys Pose #2 - Spinal Twist Instructions: Sit up tall with your legs straight. Detox benefits: Massages abdominal organs, including the liver and kidneys Pose #3 : Deep Breathing Instructions: Inhaling
Second, push the ribs sideways while still breathing in. The stomach will automatically go inwards slightly. Third, lift the chest and collar bone up while still breathing in. Even though this is described as three separate processes, it should be done in a smooth, continuous rhythm with each part following smoothly on from the previous part. Try to avoid any jerky movements.
Second, when all the air seems to be out, push the stomach in slightly to expel any remaining air in the lungs. Exhaling is a more passive affair, except for the second stage when the stomach is pushed in slightly. Detox benefits: Practicing pranayama (deep breathing) 30 minutes can drastically help improve one's energy level through the day allowing the body to detox more throughout the day. |
